Portland Beer Week Special Creations Preview

Portland Beer week is upon us once again giving us one more reason to celebrate Portland's beer culture.  From June 11th-21st Portland will be inundated with beer related events.  As well as a dozens of events, tap takeovers, and beer fests; a whole array of beer infused foods will be created for this celebration.  I had a chance to try a preview some of these beer infused creations that local artisans have crafted to kick off the week.

Bunk Sandwiches PDX Beer Week Sandwich special
Good Life Stout Braised Brisket & Gravy Po Boy with Bitter Green Slaw and Herb Salad (Made with Good Life Pass Stout) - $11 (Available at Bunk Bar Water and Wonder)
*Deluxe Queso Dip with Beer Braised Brisket (Made with Good Life Pass Stout) - $8.50 (Available only at Bunk Bar Wonder) This sandwich was fantastic.  Definitely a must try for every meat eater out there. This sandwich is fantastic!  I didn't get a lot of the stout flavor from obviously coming through but the sandwich was phenomenal.
Blue Star Beer Donut
Blue Star pastry chef Stephanie Donlan presents her collaboration with Portland's own Hopworks Urban Brewery. This pretzel topped and Hopworks IPA glazed donut will be available during the entirety of Portland Beer week at all Blue Star Donuts locations as well as several other events. I had a chance to try this delight and it is definitely worth making a trip to Blue Star Donuts to check out.  Blue Star is Portland's best kept donut secret incredible donuts without the unapologetic long lines.
Salt & Straw Honey & Citra Hops ice cream
Constantly looking for new ways to work together, Salt & Straw and Breakside Brewery have joined forces to create a new frozen scoop of deliciousness exclusive for Portland Beer Week. For this very limited small-batch creation, Salt & Straw's Tyler Malek uses only a handful of ingredients to create this beer themed ice cream.  With just cream, Breakside single hop IPA, Citra hops and sugar, this gelato consistency ice cream is a treat for any hop lover.  The hop essence was extracted using traditional brewing method of boiling 3 separate batches of hopped water for 15,30, and 45 minutes.  Then blended to achieve the perfect mixture for the ice cream.  This is a beer week exclusive and will not be available at Salt & Straw but will be at several beer events around town during beer week.

Breakside & Fremont Brewing "Back to the Future" IPA
This IPA is a cross-border collaboration with Seattle's Fremont Brewing. Breakside and Fremont both brewed a version of this beer with Breakside using Azacca and Ella and Fremont using Jarrylo and Equinox. The name comes from the potential both breweries see in these new hop varietals, believing that they will be incredibly popular in the future. These beers may introduce you to new hop varietals that will be the basis for many IPAs to come.
