As well as a dozens of events, tap takeovers, and beer fests; a whole array of beer infused foods will be created for this celebration. Salt & Straw Honey & Citra Hops ice cream
Constantly looking for new ways to work together, Salt & Straw and Breakside Brewery have joined forces to create a new frozen scoop of deliciousness exclusive for Portland Beer Week. For this very limited small-batch creation, Salt & Straw's Tyler Malek uses only a handful of ingredients to create this beer themed ice cream. With just cream, Breakside single hop IPA, Citra hops and sugar, this gelato consistency ice cream is a treat for any hop lover. The hop essence was extracted using traditional brewing method of boiling 3 separate batches of hopped water for 15,30, and 45 minutes. Then blended to achieve the perfect mixture for the ice cream. This is a beer week exclusive and will not be available at Salt & Straw but will be at several beer events around town during beer week.
Breakside & Fremont Brewing "Back to the Future" IPA
This IPA is a cross-border collaboration with Seattle's Fremont Brewing. Breakside and Fremont both brewed a version of this beer with Breakside using Azacca and Ella and Fremont using Jarrylo and Equinox. The name comes from the potential both breweries see in these new hop varietals, believing that they will be incredibly popular in the future. These beers may introduce you to new hop varietals that will be the basis for many IPAs to come.
